Bleeding

It's just a muscle, a self-exciting biological pump that regulates blood flow. Yet the human heart has long been considered an organ of spirit, of morality, of passion, of courage. In Egyptian mythology, for example, before a person's spirit could enter paradise his heart was weighed on a balance against the feather of Ma'at, the goddess of law, morality and justice. A heart laden with sin, it was believed, weighed more than a pure heart. If the heart was lighter than Ma'at's feather, the person was allowed to enter. If not...well, then all that law, morality and justice business took effect.

But it's just a muscle. When it stops, no Egyptian feather is going to help.
