Doing Cool Things with Photography

Utata.org

Utata is a collective of photographers, writers, and like-minded people who share a compelling interest in the arts. We began (and continue to exist) as a salon-style gathering of photographers who came together on flickr. As a group we are continuously evolving; Utata is more of a process than a final product.

Photographic projects grew organically out of the group's wide-ranging discussions. In order to provide an appropriate setting for those projects it was necessary to create an entirely new entity.

Utata.org is that entity. It is our attempt to retain the intimacy of the original salon while expanding to include new voices, new perspectives, and new ideas. Our goal is to become a semi-civil online tribe devoted to creating and promoting good art.

Utata Speaks Participant

Catherine Jamieson

This is important to understand: Catherine Jamieson is not simply a photographer; she is an artist who uses photography. To say she does photography is like saying Kristo does upholstery. Photography is the medium she uses to create art.

Catherine is the mind behind Utata.org.

Writing Cool Things about Photography

Zone Zero

Zone Zero Magazine describes itself as "dedicated to photography and its journey from the analog to digital world." It's a rather inadequate description; this online magazine is thoughtful, provocative, and shows the work of some astonishing photographers.

ReVue Magazine

The English-language version of ReVue is eternally under construction, but you don't need to be fluent in French to enjoy the images.

(Notes on) Politics, Theory & Photography

This is the blog of Jim Johnson, a political theorist. Although he's not a photographer himself, Johnson offers an intriguing critique on visual culture.

Art MoCo

Art MoCo is the hip nephew of MoCo Loco, a web magazine focusing on modern contemporary design news and views. Art MoCo is very much more than photography; it's about all forms of modern art. It's a great place to keep current on new art forms and new artists.
